West Bengal Judicial service consisting two written examinations preliminary and main examination and Interview.
PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION
The Preliminary examination consist of objective type 200 multiple type choice questions. The paper will carry 200 marks. the standards of paper will be of the level of knowledge as expected of a graduate in Law. The paper will include questions covering the following fields of knowledge :
- English Composition 30 marks
- General knowledge, Current Affairs and Reasoning 40 marks
- Indian Constitution 20 marks
- Law of Contracts and Torts 20 marks
- Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 20 marks
- Civil Procedure Code 20 marks
- B.N.S.S. and B.N.S. 20 marks
- Personal Law 10 marks
- Law of Limitation 20 marks
MAIN EXAMINATION
Each Compulsory and Optional Paper carries 100 marks.

- Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/ Santali Composition, Essay & Translations from English to Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/ Santali
- General Knowledge and Current Affairs
- Civil Procedure Code
- B.N.S.S. and B.N.S.
- Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam
- Law of Contracts and Torts
- Transfer of Property Act
Optional Papers :
There will be a choice of Optional Papers, from which , candidates have to select three:
- Hindu Law
- Mohammedan Law
- Jurisprudence and principal of legislation
- Indian Law relating to Companies and Insurance
- Principles of Equity including the Law of trusts and Specific Relief
- Partnership Act
- Law of Limitation and Law of Prescription
- The Indian Constitution and Constitutional Law
INTERVIEW
The personal interview is of 100 marks . Final merit list prepared by adding the marks obtained by a candidate in the mains exam.
